Description

PLEASE NOTE: Fitting a retrofit kit is a skilled job which should be undertaken only by a competent synth service engineer or fitted by us at our premises in South West London.

Note also that retrofit kits are always built to order after your payment has been processed. It then takes us up to 10 working days to build and test the kit before we can despatch it.

Retrofit Kit

This retrofit kit for the Roland TR-808 adds the following MIDI control:

For incoming MIDI:
Any MIDI channel can be selected (default 10)
MIDI clock / stop / start
Sounds – any sound can be mapped to any MIDI note number (defaults 36-46)
Velocity control of note volume (default)
Alternatively notes can be played accented or unaccented according to velocity

For outgoing MIDI:
Any MIDI channel can be selected (default 10)
MIDI clock / stop / start
Sounds generate MIDI notes according to the mapping table (defaults 36-46)
Notes generated are given velocity 64 or 127 for unaccented and accented notes respectively

Hardware:
MIDI In, Out & Thru sockets
Push button (for programming the MIDI setup)
Setups are stored in non-volatile memory (Eeprom)

The kit comprises the following items:
Circuit board – fits in the base of the TR-808
Small pack – contains DIN sockets and mounting hardware
Large pack – contains cable assemblies
User instructions – How to change from default settings and general instructions
Fitting instructions – step by step fitting guide plus diagrams of where to connect what

All kits are fully checked and tested before despatch

Note: Our retrofit and socket kits are not intended for installation by the end user.
They should always be fitted by an experienced synth engineer.

KADI Port

This Socket upgrade adds a KADI port to the TR-808 enabling the individual sounds of the TR-808 to be played using KADI port output of any Kenton device which is fitted with a KADI port. These devices are:
Pro-KADI
Pro-4
Pro-2000 if fitted with the optional KADI port

All eleven sounds can be played individually, with or without accent which is determined by a pre-set velocity level.
While the KADI port is connected to a KADI device the sounds can only be played from MIDI. When the KADI cable is unplugged (or the KADI device is turned off) the TR-808 will revert to normal operation. See the retrofit kit if you need more control.

The kit contains all necessary components and diagrams for connecting the wires / components, and mounting the 15 pin high density D socket.

Note 1): A KADI cable is not included, as this is supplied with the Pro-KADI or optional KADI add-on port for the Pro-2000 (although not with a Pro-4).

Note 2) This is a KADI Socket upgrade and is not what we call a retrofit. The retrofit kit offers a lot more control and features, and allows you to play along with the internal sequences if that is what you want to do, as well as play the sounds individually, with full velocity control. The retrofit is self contained and does not need to be connected to a converter.
