Find out how you can control your Moog Micromoog with MIDI using Kenton MIDI Retrofit Kits or MIDI to CV converters
The Micromoog doesn’t have MIDI, but does have OSC/S-Trig/Filter input sockets. Kenton offer a variety of options to get your Micromoog connected to MIDI.
- Fit a MIDI Retrofit Kit
- Use the Moog Micromoog’s existing OSC/S-Trig/Filter sockets with a MIDI to CV converter
Fitting a MIDI Retrofit Kit is a skilled job which should be undertaken only by a competent synth service engineer or fitted by us at our premises in Tadworth, near London (UK customers only).
1. Fit a MIDI Retrofit Kit to the Moog Micromoog
You can fit a MIDI Retrofit Kit which will allow you to control the Moog Micromoog directly using MIDI from your DAW, MIDI Sequencer or other MIDI controller. Fitted inside your Micromoog, our MIDI Retrofit Kit adds MIDI IN and THRU sockets to your synth.
With the Retrofit Kit you’ll have MIDI control of Notes, Pitchbend, Modulation, Filter cutoff, Portamento / Glide, Sustain. Note that the retrofit is MIDI IN and THRU only, there is no MIDI Out.

2. Using the Moog Micromoog’s Sockets with a MIDI to CV converter
The Moog Micromoog is already fitted with many control sockets including OSC INPUT, S-TRIG INPUT & FILTER INPUT which allow you to control the notes.
Which products do I need for the Moog Micromoog?
You will need a Pro Solo Mk3, 1 x 3.5mm to S-Trig lead and 2 x 3.5mm to 1/4 inch mono jack leads to connect it to the Micromoog.
Connecting Pro Solo Mk3
Connect the Pro Solo Mk3 to the Micromoog follows:
Pro Solo Mk3 | Moog Micromoog | Using |
---|---|---|
CV (Hz/V) | OSC INPUT | 3.5 to 1/4 inch mono jack lead |
GATE (S-TRIG) | S_TRIG INPUT | 3.5 to S-Trig lead |
Aux 1 | FILTER INPUT | 3.5 to 1/4 inch mono jack lead |
Pro Solo Mk3 settings
Set up the Pro Solo Mk3 as follows:
Output | Parameter | Setting |
---|---|---|
CV (Hz/V) | P15 – CV/Hz | [CV] 1 Volt per Octave (default) 1, 2 |
GATE (S-TRIG) | P16 – Gate Type | [s05] S-Trig with +5V pullup |
Aux 1 | P20 – Aux 1 Controller Number | whichever CC you wish to use 3 |
P21 – Aux 1 Minimum Value | -27 | |
P22 – Aux 1 Maximum Value | 50 |
Notes
1. The Micromoog actually uses 0.95 Volts per Octave, so the Pro Solo willl need tuning in order to accurately play notes. See page 8 of the Pro Solo mk3 manual for more details.
2. The OSC INPUT adds to the micromoog’s keyboard voltage, so you should play bottom F on the Micromoog’s own keyboard prior to controlling with the Pro Solo.
3. The Pro Solo Mk3 will also allow you to use its own ADSR Envelope Generator to modify the filter cutoff.
