Find out how you can control your Korg volca modular with MIDI using MIDI to CV converters
The Korg volca modular doesn’t have MIDI, but does have a CV-IN socket, so you can use a Kenton MIDI to CV Converter to control your volca modular with MIDI.
Which products do I need for the Korg volca modular?
The Pro Solo Mk3 has CV and Gate outputs, allowing you to control the volca modular using MIDI. You will also need a 3.5mm stereo jack to dual 3.5mm mono jack lead, and 2 of the patch cables supplied with the volca modular.
Korg volca modular’s CV-IN socket
The volca modular has a 3.5mm TRS CV-IN socket, with Gate on the tip and CV (pitch) on the ring. While the volca modular uses +/- 3.3V and 0.5V/Oct internally, its CV-IN socket accepts +/- 5V and 1V/Oct, scales the voltages down and presents them on its CV outputs.
You will need to patch the lower CV output (pitch) to the SOURCE pitch input, and the upper CV output (gate) to the AHR FUNCTION generator’s gate input:
Note: patching the CV-IN to the Source and AHR will disable the volca modular’s keyboard.
Connecting the MIDI to CV converter
Connect the Pro Solo mk3 to the volca modular as follows:
Pro Solo Mk3 | Korg volca modular | Using |
---|---|---|
CV (Hz/V) | CV-IN ring | Right channel mono jack |
GATE (S-TRIG) | CV-IN tip | Left channel mono jack |
MIDI to CV converter settings
Set up the Pro Solo mk3 as follows:
Output | Parameter | Setting |
---|---|---|
CV (Hz/V) | P15 – CV/Hz | [CV] 1 Volt per Octave (default) |
GATE (S-TRIG) | P16 – Gate Type | [g05] Gate (V-trig) at +5V |
